The Grand Experience® is a community co-designed, research-informed podcast and resource platform created to support grandfamilies—grandparents, relatives, and kinship caregivers raising children.

Community Voices at the Center
The Grand Experience Podcast was created through a human-centered co-design process that placed grandfamilies at the center of every decision. Guided by the principle “Nothing about grandfamilies without grandfamilies,” we partnered with grandparents raising grandchildren, community organizations, advocates, and service providers to understand their experiences, strengths, needs, and recommendations.
Through listening sessions, interviews, community conversations, and collaborative planning meetings, we gathered insights directly from grandfamilies. These insights informed the podcast’s purpose, content, format, and topics. A Co-Design Committee of grandparents and community stakeholders then worked alongside the project team to refine ideas, prioritize topics, and ensure the podcast would be relevant, practical, and meaningful.
The result is a community-informed podcast that amplifies the voices of grandfamilies, shares lived experiences, and connects families with resources, support, and hope.
